LA Deal

LA Deal, 84, of Sharon School Rd, Statesville, was called home to his Lord and savior Friday, August 24, 2012. He was born in Iredell County on January 25, 1928 to the late Charlie Clarence Deal and Vera Miller Deal. LA attended Scotts School, and later was drafted into the US Army where he served as a cook. Upon discharge he worked as a carpenter and a builder. He was a partner in D & W Builders and D & W Farms. He also raised chickens for Perdue Farms. On February 24, 1954 LA married the love of his life, Sallie Jean Witherspoon. They celebrated 67 years of marriage. Their love constantly demonstrated the meaning of “true love”. They would spend most evenings on the back porch swing, holding hands, always ready for family and neighbors to join them. LA was a lifetime member of Sharon Evangelical Lutheran Church. His life was a reflection of his faith and belief in Jesus Christ. LA was the kind of man that was always willing to help his neighbors. LA enjoyed the simple things like getting up his hay, feeding his cows and especially driving his tractors. He also enjoyed his nightly bowl of ice cream that he would often share with his dog. LA’s love for his family is too great to describe in words or to explain how much his family loved him. His wonderful smile and his presence in our lives will live in our hearts forever. In addition to his parents, LA was preceded in death by his son, Luther Ronnie Deal; four brothers, JB, James, Frank and Clarence Deal; four sisters, Lillian Stuart, Martha & Coleen Deal and Pauline Morrow; brothers in law – Joshua Butler Witherspoon Jr., Rob Stuart, Jack Morrow, Cecil Morrow; sisters in law, Sudie Deal and Dollie Deal; a great grandson, Samuel Luke Godfrey. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sisters, Margie Morrow and Mary Anderson; a daughter in law, Brenda Deal Troutman; a brother in law, Marvin Anderson; three sisters in law, Peg Deal, Therry Deal and Jan Witherspoon; grandchildren: Tammy Deal Godfrey and husband Josh, Jamie Leigh Witherspoon and Jodi Leean Witherspoon; great grandchildren: Will Joshua Godfrey and Elizabeth “Lizard” Stone Godfrey; and many nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00pm Sunday August 26, 2012 at Sharon Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Gene Bruce and Rev. Darrel Norris will officiate. Burial will follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm Saturday evening at Sharon Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pallbearers include: Josh Godfrey, Will Godfrey, Clarence Deal Jr., Barry Morrow, Ernie Pope and Paul Sigmon. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Sharon Evangelical Lutheran Church “Roof Fund” 2116 Island Ford Rd., Statesville NC 28625 or Hospice of Iredell County 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville NC 28625.
