Donald Carlton Cook

Donald Carlton Cook, age 70 of 133 Harris Bridge Rd., Stony Point, went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday August 23, 2011 at Gordon Hospice House. He was born January 10, 1941 in Iredell County to the late Spencer Green Cook and Mary Curlee Cook. He was a retired furniture worker. He was also a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. He loved our Lord and would tell anyone that would listen; he was never ashamed to praise Jesus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Cook; one sister, Hazel Beckham; two grandsons, Shawn and Dwayne Bell; and one nephew, Michael Beckham. Left to cherish his memory are, his wife of forty nine years, Carolyn Combs Cook; Daughter, Debra Cook Luffman and husband Barry, with whom he made his home; grandson, Donald Jeffrey and wife Allison; great grandsons, Jesse and Mikael “Mikey”; his best buddies, partners in crime and best friends; granddaughter, Jessica St John and husband John; great granddaughter, Holly; grandson, Jeremy Luffman; great granddaughter, Kyleigh. Daughter, Diane Cook Nichols and husband Wayne; grandson, Chad McMillian and wife Kim; great granddaughter, Jada; great grandson, Caleb; grandson, Josh and wife Angela; great grandson, Blain “Buddy”; Daughter, Karen Cook Bell and husband John; sister, Ann Roten and husband Odell; Brother Jimmy and wife Linda; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm Friday August 26, 2011 at Shady Grove Baptist Church. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. Rev. Conley Matlock and Rev. Arnold Dulin will officiate. Burial will follow in the Stony Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:30-8:00pm Thursday evening at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Pallbearers include: Donald Jeffrey Luffman, Jeremy Luffman, John St John, Nephews – Bobby Roten, Ray Roten and Jimmy Roten, Jr. God please cherish our husband and daddy as much as we have. We know he’s walking with our Lord with a smile that outshines our tears. The Lord gives and He takes away, but always with love.
