Nina Bennett Jarvis VanHoy

Nina Bennett Jarvis VanHoy, age 89 of 129 Jarvis Lane, Union Grove, passed away Saturday October 30, 2010 at her home. She was born November 4, 1920 in Iredell County to the late Henry C. Bennett and Paulina Campbell Bennett. Mrs. VanHoy was retired from Union Grove Apparel. She was a life long member of Union Grove United Methodist Church. Over the years she had served as Vice President and President of the United Methodist Women. After Mrs. VanHoy retired she loved to volunteer at the church, work with her flowers, gardening and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin P. Jarvis; second husband, Woodrow VanHoy; seven brothers, Woodrow Bennett, Grady Bennett, Graham Bennett, Miles Bennett, Parks Bennett, Andrew Bennett and Jahue Bennett; four sisters, Colis Blackburn, Dora Ireland, Lucy Templeton and Florence Johnson. She is survived by her two sons, Bill R. Jarvis and wife Libby of North Augusta, SC, Wayne Jarvis and wife Bobbie of Union Grove, three daughters, Irene J. Gryder and husband Marvin of Statesville, Margaret J. Bowles and husband Eric of Union Grove, Gradie J. Miller and husband John of Statesville; three step sons, Brent VanHoy and wife Angela of Union Grove, Larry VanHoy of MT, Greg VanHoy and wife of MT; three step daughters, Woodie Jarvis of MT, Jill Egan and husband of AK, Cindy V. Peltier of MT; two brothers in law, Ezelle Jarvis and wife Erma of Statesville, James Templeton of Winston Salem; one sister in law, Edna J. Goble of FL; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a number of nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Tuesday November 2, 2010 at Union Grove United Methodist Church. Rev. Steve Kirby will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorials may be given to the Union Grove United Methodist Church 1331 Sloan’s Mill Rd. Union Grove, NC 28689 or the Hospice of Iredell 2347 Simonton Rd. Statesville, NC 28625. The family would like to give a special thanks to Shirley Tester of Home Instead, and to the Hospice staff for their love and care, during her declining health.
