Morris McDonald Greene

Master Sergeant (Retired) Morris McDonald Greene age 84, of Bethlehem, passed away, Sunday, November 13th, 2016 at Novant Health Rowan, Salisbury. Morris was born February 28th, 1932 in Mitchell County, to the late Horace and Belle Buchanan Greene. Morris was retired after 20 years of serving honorably in the United State Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He graduated from Bowman High School in Bakersville, NC in May of 1950. Morris held an Associate’s Degree and a B.S. from Mitchell College. He was a dedicated man of the Christian faith and was a member of First Baptist Church in Hickory, singing in the Sanctuary Choir, the Gospel Choir and the Melodears Choir. He was a member of the NRA and an avid outdoorsman, enjoying horses and fox hunting with his outstanding hounds all over the United States. Morris was also an active member of the Alexander County Republican Party. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Dozer Greene and his second wife, Louise Baker Greene and a grandson, Adam Greene. Morris is survived by his wife, and soulmate Dorothy Cowan Greene of the home and three children; Timothy Alex (Tim) Greene, Debra G. Snow (husband Ronnie) and Angela G. Asherbraner of Hickory, six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Morris is also survived by two sisters; Mrs. Nora Lee G. Duncan of Bakersville, NC, and Mrs. Sue G. Rawls, (husband Randy) of Louisville, Ohio. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday November 19th, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 339 2nd Avenue, NW, Hickory NC, with, Rev. Dr. Phillip Reynolds, Rev. Butch Farrah and Rev. Edith Pruitt officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Hickory. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park, with full military honors. Family and friends are invited at the conclusion of the committal service to return to First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall for a further celebration of Morris’ life and a meal. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the American Diabetes Association, 1300 Baxter Street, Suite 150, Charlotte, NC 28204.
