James (Harry) Hager

James “Harry” Hager, age 91 of 227 Pisgah Church Rd, Statesville, departed his life, Tuesday December 7, 2010 at Iredell Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness. He was born June 26, 1919 in Alexander County to the late James Augustus Hager and Euphia Millholland Hager. Harry served his country with great pride during World War II in the European theatre. He participated in, “The Battle of the Bulge”, following General Patton’s Army. He was in Germany when the war ended. He was awarded numerous medals including three Bronze Stars. At wars end he returned to the Hager family farm where he was a poultry farmer and cattleman. His real vocation however was plumbing which he dearly loved. He cared for his customers and spoke of them until the end of his life. Harry was instrumental in the founding of Trinity Fire Department; He was also a member of VFW post #10000; a 60 year member of the Snow Creek Masonic Lodge #0571. He was an active member of Pleasant Grove Church, for many years he maintained the plumbing and each Saturday evening checked out the plumbing to be ready for Sunday morning. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Grose Hager; son-in-law, Ray Moore; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Dean Hager; sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Woodrow Carico; brother-in-law, David Philips. Harry is survived by his wife, Peggy Summers Hager of the home; two daughters, Betty Hager Redmond and husband Bill of Stony Point, Debbie Hager Moore of Statesville; one step-daughter, Cindy Cox and husband Billy of Taylorsville; one sister Martha Hager Philips of Charlotte; three grandsons, Andy Redmond and wife Christie of Plano Texas, Wayne Redmond of Dana Point, California, and Michael Moore of Statesville; one granddaughter, Angela Moore of Statesville; two great granddaughters, Madeline and Clare Redmond of Plano Texas; and one step grandson, David Cook of North Wilkesboro. Funeral Services will be conducted 3:00pm Friday December 10, 2010 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Mark Robinette will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by post 10000 and post 5466 of Alexander Country. The Family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 Thursday evening in the fellowship hall at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The pallbearers: include the Trinity Fire Department members.
