Dollie Witherspoon Deal

Dollie Witherspoon Deal, age 88 of Sharon School Rd., Statesville, passed away, Friday December 2, 2011 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born December 5, 1922 in Iredell County to the late Joshua Butler Witherspoon and Sally Sigmon Witherspoon. Dollie attended Sharon School, where she was a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court. She fell in love with Clarence Edwin Deal Sr. and they were married for fifty three years. They were a loving example to their family and friends, often referring to Dollie as “his girl”. Clarence passed away on this same day, December 2 nd in 1993. Dollie worked various jobs in the community which included employment at Prestige Furniture, Davis Hospital and owning her own beauty shop. Dollie was a lifelong member of Sharon Evangelical Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and participated in the ELCW. She was also a member of Woodmen of the World, Senior Saints, and the Red Hat Crimson Toppers. Dollie loved to travel, work puzzles, read, swim and ride the waves at the beach, and play spider solitaire on her computer. She also enjoyed visiting others in her community who were not physically able to leave their homes or in assisted living facilities. Dollie was passionate about her family and was a source of guidance and strength throughout her life. Just saying she was a wonderful Mother doesn’t seem to capture completely the impact she has made on her loved ones lives. She raised her family in Christian Faith and led her life in a manner that reflected her faith and hope in Jesus Christ. She always demonstrated unconditional love and support for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She just had a way of making you feel like everything was going to be alright. Dollie’s warmth, vibrant personality, sense of humor, and candid conversation made her a delight to be around. She will be greatly missed, and we all will aspire to live to her example. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son; one brother, J B Witherspoon; four sisters, Francis Crouch, Summia pope, Margaret James, and Evelyn Dunnigan; two sons in law, Luther Ronnie Deal and Cecil “Pete” Troutman; two great grandchildren, Logan Nicole Wingler and Samuel Luke Godfrey. She is survived by her son, Clarence Edwin Deal “JR” and wife Anita; a daughter, Brenda Deal Troutman; one sister, Sally Jean Witherspoon Deal; five sisters in law, Peg Deal, Jan Witherspoon, Margie Morrow, Therry Deal, Mary Anderson and husband Marvin; three grandchildren, Tammy Deal Godfrey and husband Josh; Robert Shannon Deal and wife Jill; Lori Deal Rhodes and husband Rodney; seven great grandchildren, Hayden Deal, Garrett Deal, Will Godfrey, Elizabeth Godfrey, Cody Wingler, Katelyn Rhodes, and Macy Rhodes; and many nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00pm Sunday December 4, 2011 at Sharon Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Darrell Norris will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends after 4:00pm last evening at the home. Pallbearers include, Rodney Rhodes, Josh Godfrey, Randy Moose, Brandon Moose, Ernie pope, and Bob Kastor. Honorary pallbearers include, Barry Morrow, Brad Deal, Will Godfrey and Cody Wingler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Sharon Evangelical Lutheran Church “Roof Fund” 2116 Island Ford Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
