Vernon Lee York, 62, of North Iredell County went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday June 15, 2008, at his home. He was born on January 26, 1946, in Elkin to the late John Rex York and Enis Mae Combs York. He was a carpenter and a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Lexington. He served in the United States Army for 3 years from 1964-1967.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Nadine Elizabeth York.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Overcash York of the home; one son, Dale Lee York; one step son, Kevin O’Neil Harvey of the home; one step daughter, Sylvia Willis and husband James of Winston Salem; one brother James Frederick York of Winston Salem; one sister Christine York of Winston Salem; one step grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00pm at Zion Baptist Church. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. Dr. Charles Joey Tomlin will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
