Joseph Barron Thomas, Sr. age 82 of 420 Wilson Street, Statesville passed away Sunday May 2, 2010 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born June 19, 1927 in Iredell County to the late Henry Albea Thomas and Beadie Jane Kennedy Thomas. He served in the US Navy, worked as a prison guard for NC Dept of Corrections. He was member of NC Law Enforcement Officers. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and the VFW and was also of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his five brothers, Elbert Thomas, Henry Thomas, James Thomas, Bill Thomas, and Garland Thomas; two sisters, Sylvia Josey and Maggie Meadows.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Edmisten Thomas of the home; two sons, Donnie Thomas and wife Becky, Berry Thomas and wife Sissy; one daughter, Marlene Perry and husband Thea all of Statesville; seven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Friday May 7, 2010 at the Chapman Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. John Parks will officiate. Burial will follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens. Military rites will provided. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00pm Thursday evening at Chapman Funeral Home.
