James Rudolph Thomas, 89 of Valley Nursing Center, formerly of 701 Drumstand Rd., Stony Point, departed this life Thursday, March 5, 2009. He was born on October 8, 1919 in Alexander County, to the late Dewey Thomas and Lillie Parker Thomas. He attended Iredell County Schools and had worked at Worth Spinning Co. He was a member of Third Creek Baptist Church where he had served in Senior Choir and the Usher Ministry.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Estelle Watts Parker Thomas; five sisters, Ora Thomas, Sadie Keaton, Eva Thomas, Naomi Thomas and Pauline Bowman.
He is survived by his nephew, Joe Thomas and wife Sylvia; grand nephews, Derrick Thomas, Ronald Thomas and Donald Thomas; stepchildren: Sterling Watts, May Harris, Cathy Parker, and Jerry Parker; a host of cousins including Albert Parker, Blanche Parker and Gladys Hill his caregivers.
Funeral services will be conducted 4:00pm Saturday March 7, 2009 at Third Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Sterling Howard will officiate. Burial will be follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00- 4:00pm prior to the funeral hour at the church.
