Myrtle Marie Stokes, age 81 of 306 4 th Ave. N., Taylorsville passed away Tuesday May 18, 2010 at Brian Center of Statesville after a lengthy illness. She was born March 8, 1929 in Surry County to the late John Wesley Branson and Matilda Jones Branson. Mrs. Stokes worked for the home health care. She was also of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Stokes; two brothers, Howard Branson and Thomas Branson; three sisters, Betty Marsh, Josephine Kline, and Lorine Carter.

She is survived by two sons, Eugene Gentry and Ray Gentry both of Mt Airy; one brother, Elbert Branson and wife Libby of Mt Airy; two sisters, Annie Cook and husband Estel of Maryland, and Jean Marsh of Statesville; and a number of grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm Friday May 21, 2010 at the Chapman Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mitchell Rash will officiate. Burial will follow in the Stony Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00pm at Chapman Funeral Home prior to the funeral hour.
