Roy Franklin Smith, age 73 of 12277 Statesville Rd., Union Grove, passed away, Sunday, January 3, 2010 at his home. He was born November 15, 1936 in Rockingham County, to the late Vera Blanche Ross Martin. Mr. Smith was a carpenter for 40 years and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Ann Carter and Mary Baber.

He is survived by his wife, Rowena Jones Smith of the home; four sons, Roy F Maness of Reidsville, William M Smith of Fl, Johnny R Smith of GA and Chino S Smith; four daughters, Tammy A Hockerman of GA, Sandy M Stewart of GA, Debbie Ross of Snow Camp, Jolene Star Smith of Union Grove; fifteen grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Friday January 8, 2009 at the Chapman Funeral Home Chapel. Hospice Chaplain Brian Pleasants will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm prior to the service.
