Mrs. Annie Estelle Haithcox Smith
, 91, of 870 Goble Rd., Hiddenite, passed away Friday, June 19, 2009 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born February 23, 1918 in Lynchburg, VA to the late Calvin Scott Haithcox and Hessie Geneva Smith Haithcox. She was a retired textile worker and a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Edmond Smith; one son, William Ed Smith; an infant daughter; three brothers, Frank Haithcox, Billy B Haithcox and John H Haithcox; two sisters, Mary E Haithcox and Flora Lee Pennell; five grandchildren, Scotty Canter, Benny Carrigan, Shannon Smith, Patty Carrigan and Mike Sweet.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Roy Lynn Smith and wife Paulette, John Larry Smith and wife Myra all of Hiddenite; three daughters, Helen Sweet of Hiddenite, Annie Carrigan and husband Buck of Taylorsville, Kay Canter and husband Gene of Canton, OH; three brothers, James Haithcox of Stony Point, Lent Haithcox and Bob Haithcox both of Statesville; three sisters, Gert Bayard of Ohio, Margaret Neely, Polly Burdette and husband Ken of Statesville; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00pm Monday, June 22, 2009 at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Parks will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday June 22, 2009 from 2:30-3:30pm at the church and other times at the home.

Pallbearers include: Eric Smith, Wes Smith, Brent Smith, Keith Smith, David Wike and Matthew Millsaps.
