Russell K. Sloan, age 82 of 123 Ernest Rd., Statesville, passed away, Monday, February 1, 2010 at Davis Hospital after a brief illness. He was born December 23, 1927 in Iredell County, to the late Ruth Sloan. Mr. Sloan graduated high school, attended Winston Salem Barber School in Winston Salem. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. He was employed most of his career at Holden Barber Shop in Hickory.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his brother, Oswald “Zeek” Sloan.
He is survived by his sister in law, Juanita Miller Sloan; his nephew, Reggie Sloan and wife Jo of Conover.
A graveside service will be conducted 2:00pm Wednesday February 3, 2009 at Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Bob Harris will be officiating.
Memorials may be given to the Cemetery Fund at Mountain View United Methodist Church 823 Mountain View Rd, Statesville, NC 28625 or Hospice of Iredell County 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.

Dear Family,
This note comes late, and I wish to send our sympathies to you in your loss. [My Mama, Libby, was a cousin and she & her sister Franes Goodwin tried to keep in touch with Aunt Ruth's family. I remember Russell as a child only. My Daddy used to get him to cut his hair, I'm sure. Thanks for letting me share some memories with you. There are adjustments and we'll be praying.

| My dad, Jimmy Hall, worked with Russell at Holder's Barbershop for many years and has always spoken very highly of him. My dad has a photo taken during the 1970s of all the barbers. Due to Russell's height, his barber chair was placed on a wooden box to raise it up a few inches, which is clearly visible in the photo.
