Ada Ballard Shepherd, 95, of 630 N. Miller Ave., Statesville, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Brians Center of Statesville. She was born January 4, 1914, in Wilkes County to the late John Henry Ballard and Bertie Stringer Ballard. She was a custodial service worker. She was a member of 7th Street Baptist Church since 1966.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Foy Samuel Shepherd; four brothers, Raymond Ballard, Will Ballard, Oscar Ballard, and Odell Ballard; one sister, Etta Ballard; three grandchildren, Sammy and Donnie Blankenship, Danny Shepherd; one great grandchild, Preston Crawford.
She is survived by her four daughters, Gaynell Blankenship of Concord, Virginia Miller of Statesville, Joyce Pointer of Statesville, Sylvia S. Waugh and husband Kenneth D. of Stony Point; one brother, John Ballard of Sparta; one sister, Dorothy Handy of Wilkesboro; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00pm Sunday January 25, 2009 at Chapman Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Leroy England and Rev. Matt Emory will be officiating. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00-9:00pm at Chapman Funeral Home.

I would like to send my condolences to Ada's Family. I was very fortunate to be able to care for her and the chance to know her at Brian Center. She touched my heart in many ways and she will always remain in my thoughts and prayers.
