Saturday, August 9, 2008, 7:30am, Heaven’s gates opened wide for our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend at Iredell Memorial Hospital: Thelma Mable Shatley Robinette, 81, of 6 DeJarnette Lane, Stony Point. Mrs. Robinette was born on January 9, 1927 in Ashe County, NC, to the late Avery Shatley and Bessie Williams Shatley Poindexter. On January 8, 1944 the day before her 17th birthday, she married her best friend and lifetime love, Z.V. Robinette, who preceded her in death November 2004.

Their marriage was one that lasted over sixty years. Mrs. Robinette was a retired textile and furniture worker. Mrs. Robinette was a long time member of Stony Point Baptist Church, served on numerous committees and was a member of the Applewhite Circle. Mrs. Robinette enjoyed flowers and gardening, spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed shopping at her favorite store DeJa’Vu with her “adopted daughter” Brenda Warren. She was a friend to everyone she met and always had a smile on her face.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Carol Cockrell of Statesville and Diane Dellinger and husband Jerry of Stony Point; four grandchildren, Deedra Downs and husband Aaron, Chad Cockrell and wife Donna all of Stony Point, Amber Shea Gandy of Statesville, Heather Dru Murphy and husband Nick of Durham; seven great grandchildren, Parker and Zoe Downs, Colby and Lindy Cockrell, Ali Shea Gandy, Carter and Landon Murphy; one sister, Ethel Martin of Bethlehem; one sister in law, Marie Crisp of Taylorsville; a number of nephews and nieces; her special friend, Ralph “Hoover” Boger and best friends: Ruth McKittrick, Doris Robinette, Glenda Robertson, Lisa Kerley and her little dog “Lu Lu”.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday August 12, 2008 at 5:00pm at Stony Point Baptist Church. Rev. Marshall Sargeant, Rev. Greg Barefoot and Rev. Phil Addison will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00pm-5:00pm prior to the funeral at the church.

To Thelma's family and all the rest of us who loved her,
I join you in sorrow at her passing. She leaves behind a legacy of fond memories, though. Her unforgettable laugh, and larrupin' persimmon pudding made my visits to Stony Point something to look forward to. Thelma was one of the cheeriest, kindest and friendliest persons I have known. I am blessed to be able to call her a friend.
Joel Downs, Hurst, TX

Carol, Diane and family,
Thelma was always a joy to be around. I will always remember her sweet smile. She always had that smile no matter what she was going through and she now has even more to smile about. She would want each one of you to carry on her sweet loving smile for her. My prayers are with each one of you during this time. May God give you the strength you need at this time.
