James Daniel “Red” Moose, Sr., age 77, of 237 Antietam Road, Statesville, passed away, Saturday October 24, 2009 at his home, after an extended illness. He was born on August 30, 1932 in Iredell County, to the late Benjamin Harrison Moose and Lola Dagenhart Moose. Mr. Moose served in the U.S. Army, and was an avid baseball player. He was retired from Rubbermaid in Statesville. He was also a member of Midway United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Troy Moose and Benny Moose; two sisters, Ruth Beasley and Wilma Isenhour.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Byrd Moose of the home; one son, James Daniel Moose, Jr. of Statesville; two daughters, Ramona Moose Moore of Wilkesboro, and Toby Moose of Swansboro; three sisters, Katherine Waugh of Statesville, Pearl Mayberry of Stony Point, Pauline Randolph of Statesville; five grandchildren, Victoria Elkins, Brandon Campbell, Jessica Moose, Matthew Moore, and Alexander Moore; one great grandchild, Taylor Grace Campbell.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00pm Monday October 26, 2009 at the Marvin United Methodist Church. Rev. Matthew Emory and Rev. Charles Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military Rites will be provided. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm Sunday evening at Chapman Funeral Home.
