Irene B. Mecimore, 91, of Hiddenite, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Palliative Care Hospice House in Newton. She was born May 28, 1918 in Hiddenite to the late William Arthur Blankenship and Mattie Elizabeth Keever Blankenship. Mrs. Mecimore worked mainly in furniture factories until she was 82 years old.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Mecimore; and son Leonard Mecimore. She was also preceded in death by her nine siblings: Mavis Adams, Vitus Stikeleather, Suma Wike, Addie Smith, Lundy Kerley, Eula Icenhour, Hessie Kerley, Rev. Grover Blankenship and Fess Blankenship.
Survivors include one daughter, Shelby Wagoner of Morganton; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and five great greatt-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 3pm Friday July 31, 2009 at Living Word Ministries on Jennings Road in Statesville. Pastor James Lewis will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm at the church prior to the funeral service.
