Donald Hugh “Bud” McLain went to his heavenly home on August 12, 2009. He was born on June 16, 1933 in Alexander County to Morris Cleveland McLain and Florence Miller McLain who preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Paschal, Cecil, Kermit, and Kenneth McLain. |
He was a member of Berea Baptist Church, served as a deacon 35 years, was the adult Sunday school class teacher, served in the US Army in Austria, he worked at Kewaunee Technical Furniture for 20 years, and worked for Lackey Construction as a carpenter and was a tobacco and dairy farmer.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann Davis McLain and his four sons, Marcus and wife Lisa McLain, Michael McLain all of Hiddenite, Andrew and wife Jennifer McLain of Claremont, David John and wife Melissa McLain of Charlottesville, VA and six grandchildren, Melinda, Megan, Matthew, Myles, Jacob, and Evan McLain. He also is survived by one sister Thelma Godfrey and one sister in law, Edna McLain both of Hiddenite, and his faithful dog Zelda.
The family will receive friends at Berea Baptist Church on Friday August 14, 2009 from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held at Berea Baptist Church on Saturday August 15, 2009 at 11am, officiated by Rev. Charles Cook, Rev. David Parks, and Rev. Rickey Mitchell. Military rights will be performed by VFW post 5466 and 10,000. Honorary pall bearers are the deacons of Berea Baptist Church.
Memorials may be given to Berea Baptist Church, 350 Berea Church Quincy Road, Hiddenite, NC 28636.

We at Berea and the community have lost a big "block of salt". Rare, in this world, are men like Bud. What a great bible scholar he was. We know he learned it all by the grace of God studying it daily at his kitchen table. I just wish more of the world could have known him. Just know my family loves your family and will always be there for you. May the good Lord continue to bless you now and always.
