Donald Ray “Donnie” Matheson, Sr., 59, of 12 Old Mountain Rd, Hiddenite, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at his home. He was born January 19, 1949, in Iredell County to the late Melvin Ray Matheson and Suma Childers Matheson of Hiddenite. He was a veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the National Guard for numerous years, employed at Craftmaster Furniture and was an active member at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church.

 In addition to his mother he is survived by his two sons, Donald Ray Matheson, Jr. of Hickory and Adam Robert Matheson of Hiddenite; two sisters, Doris Jean Adams and husband Roger of Taylorsville, Paulette M. Gwaltney and husband Lynn of Hiddenite; seven grandchildren; one nephew, Russell Eugene Adams and wife Crystal of Taylorsville; one niece, Melanie Renee Williams and husband Phillip of Hiddenite; and three grand nephews.

 

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00pm Friday December 12, 2008 at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Parks and Rev. Mitch King will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by Hiddenite Post # 10,000 and Taylorsville Post # 5466. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00pm at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church.

Hey I was a great friend of Donnie and I went to the recieving and due to school I was not able to make it to the funeral. I had a hard time last night; I couldnt bear i,t I had to leave.
