Brady Webster Martin, 74, of 4415 Black Oak Ridge Road, Taylorsville, passed away Monday, December 1, 2008 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born February 6, 1934, in Alexander County to the late George Washington Martin and Hattie Lackey Martin. He was a graduate of Stony Point High School, “Class of 52”, and graduated Wilkes Community College in 1980 with an Associate degree in Criminal Justice. He retired from the United States Navy after 22 years of service and worked as a poultry farmer of which he was also retired. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Taylorsville, the DAV Chapter 84 and VFW Post # 5466.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Betty Jean Barnes Martin; one infant brother, Benny Ray Martin; one sister, Nellie Martin Holland; two brothers in law, Nathan Sloan and Clyde Sprinkle. His survivors include one son, Scott Brady Martin and wife Vicki; and one daughter, Donna M. Johnson and husband Jeff all of Taylorsville; two sisters, Winnie Sue Sloan of Hiddenite and Chancie Sprinkle of Statesville; five grandchildren, Christopher Martin, Tiffany Martin Perez and husband Anthony, Hannah Martin, Bradley Johnson and wife Kelly, Justin Johnson and wife Brittney; one great grandchild, Julianna Johnson; and a special friend Mabel Holland of Statesville.

 Funeral services will be conducted 12:30pm Wednesday December 3, 2008 at Salem Lutheran Church. Rev. Ray Ohlendorf will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by Hiddenite Post # 10,000 and Taylorsville Post # 5466. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00am-12:00pm at Chapman Funeral Home and other times at the home of the daughter at 587 Houck Mountain Rd in Taylorsville. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Nellie Martin Holland Scholarship Fund c/o Mrs. Jack Kunkle: 411 Holland Drive, Statesville, NC 28677, Salem Lutheran Church:  4005 NC Hwy 16 North, Taylorsville NC 28681 or Hospice of Alexander County: 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
