Virgil George Lane, 79, of 156 Sharon School Road, Statesville, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2008 at his home. He was born December 19, 1928, in McDowell County to the late George Lane and Effie Alford Lane. He was a retired truck driver and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

His survivors include his wife Hazel Stewart Lane of the home; two sons, Edward Lane and David Lane; one daughter, Barbara Lane all of Hickory; one brother, James Lane of Marion; one sister, Marie Greene of Canton; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Wednesday December 3, 2008 at Bethel United Methodist Church. Rev. Matthew Emory will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:00pm at the church prior to the funeral hour.
