Donald Delbert Lackey, Sr. 80, of 222 Halyburton Road, Stony Point, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009 at Britthaven Nursing Home in Wilkesboro. He was born February 16, 1929 in Iredell County, to the late Thomas Smith Lackey and Maude Webber Lackey. He served our country in the Korean Conflict in the United States Army and the National Guard. He was self employed, a member of the Statesville VFW Post # 2031, a member of the Statesville Lions Club and a member of the Stony Point Tabernacle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Dessie Sellers Lackey; five brothers Hueston Lackey, Harlee Lackey, James Lackey, Austin Lackey, and William Lackey; two sisters: LV Head and Eloise Hayes; one grandson: Johnny Ireland, Jr.

He is survived by one son: Donald D. Lackey, Jr of Stony Point; five daughters: Debra Burgess and husband Bill of Denver, Kansas, Donna Little and husband Phil of Taylorsville, Lynn Moore and husband Rodney of Wilkesboro, Renee Morron and husband Herberto of Stony Point, and Darlene Hall of Stony Point; two brothers, Waitsell Lackey and wife Donnie of Stony Point, Grover Lackey and wife Sue of Statesville; five sisters: Rozella West, Marie West, and Vera Adams all of Statesville, Ruth Walker and husband Miller of Taylorsville, Hazel McCurdy and husband H.G. of Marietta, Georgia, Brenda Mitchell and husband Tommy of High Point; grandchildren: Melinda Burgess of Denver, Kansas, Krissy Smith of Taylorsville, April Bennett of Statesville, Trisha Ireland of Statesville, Lorraine Jones of Porta Pia, Haiti, Joni Little, Savannah Little and Daniel Little of Taylorville, Jerry Dale Lackey of Taylorsville, Diane Hall of Stony Point, Josh Morron and Donald Morron of Stony Point; great grandchildren: Kirstin Hargrave, Corben Smith, Micah Jones; eight step grandchildren; former wife, Cleo Pope of Statesville.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday March 13, 2009 at 2:00pm at Stony Point Tabernacle. Rev. Chuck Hager will be officiating. Body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to funeral. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by Iredell County Veterans Council. The family will receive friends Thursday March 12 from 6:30-8:30pm at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers include: Gary Lackey, Rodney Moore, Phillip Little, Billy Burgess, Donald Morron and Herberto Morron.
