Lena Mae Parson Jones, age 92 of 45 West Jay Drive, Taylorsville passed away Saturday May 22, 2010 at Frye Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born April 7, 1918 in Alexander County to the late Grover Parsons and Gladys Barnes Parsons. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of St. John’s Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Blake Jones; one sister, Ella Parsons; three brothers, Roscoe Parsons, Nathanial Parsons, and Vernon Parsons; one grandson, Bobby Joe Powell.

She is survived by two sons, Joe Jones, Jr. and wife Madia; James Lee Parson all of Taylorsville; three sisters, Dorothy Bennett and Elizabeth Jones both of Taylorsville, Betty Sue Linebarger and husband James of Hickory; three grandchildren: Bryan Scott, Joe Ann Primus, and Paulette Powell; five great grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Wednesday May 26, 2010 at St. John’s Baptist Church. Rev. Tyra E. Martin and Rev. Sterling Howard will officiate. Burial will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30pm Tuesday evening at Chapman Funeral Home.
