William Tommy Johnson, age 78 of 1584 Goble Road, Hiddenite passed away Wednesday May 12, 2010 at his home unexpectedly. He was born February 15, 1932 in Alexander County to the late William Martin Johnson and Allie Johnson Warren. Mr. Johnson served in the US Army. Prior to his retirement he owned and operated Taylorsville Recapping Co. He was a past member of Brushy Mountain Golf Course, loved to play golf and a member of VFW post #10000. He was also member of Mt. Wesley Wesleyan Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by infant son, William Glenn Johnson; one brother, O. B. Warren; three sisters, Doris Williams, Opal Pennell and Ruby Church.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Peggy Tevepaugh Johnson of the home; sons, Marty Johnson and wife Denise of Hiddenite, Roger Johnson and wife Lisa of Conover; foster son, Ricky Southard and wife Diane of Taylorsville; special son, Mark Sharpe and wife Beverly of Taylorsville; one daughter, Gail Harrington and husband Ken of Taylorsville; four sisters, Mary Warren, Nancy Kidd, Lucille Barns and husband Bill all of Taylorsville, Rushie Eldridge of Hiddenite; eight grandchildren, Garrett Harrington, Kendra Harrington, Kristie Johnson, Megan Johnson, Will Johnson, Darlene Dennis, Nancy Childres, and Linda Gilreath; and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Saturday May 15, 2010 at Mt Wesley Wesleyan Church. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. Rev. Eric Yelton, Rev. Danny Dennis and Mark Sharpe will officiate. Burial will follow in the Taylorsville Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by VFW post #10000 and VFW post #5466. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30pm Friday evening at Mt Wesley Wesleyan Church.

Pallbearers include: Johnny Church, Michael Brown, Jimmy Brown, David Barnes, Charles Tevepaugh, Tim Warren, Jeffery Warren, and Christopher Brown.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Mt Wesley Wesleyan Church Building Fund, 403 Mt Wesley Church Rd., Hiddenite, NC 28636.
