Bobby Gene “Bud” Johnson Sr., 76, of 3307 Wilkesboro Hwy, Statesville, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born on April 30, 1932, in Wilkes County, to the late Shirl Johnson and Stella Roberts Johnson. He was retired from International Paper Company in Statesville. He was a member of Bright Light Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Keith Johnson; a daughter-in-law, Julie R Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret Cass “Mama” Johnson of the home; one son, Bobby Gene “Nicky” Johnson Jr. of Statesville; one daughter, Tammie “Daddy’s Girl” Sherrill and husband Tim of Chesapeake, VA; one brother, William Dean Johnson of Statesville; two sisters, Shirley Mae Welborn of Windy Gap and Peggy Inscore and husband Robert of Statesville; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and special friends, Benny Hager “who is like a brother” and wife Gail and Rick Johnson. He loved and was very fond of all his Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. A memorial service will be conducted at Bright Light Baptist Church Saturday at 4:00pm. Rev. Keith Bowman will officiate. a private internment will be at a later date. Military Rites will be provided by VFW Hiddenite Post #10,000 and VFW Taylorsville Post #5466. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
