Margaret Elizabeth James age 94, of 173 Old Lion Rd., Statesville, passed away Monday, April 20, 2009 at the Lutheran Home in Hickory after an extended illness. She was born March 28, 1915, in Iredell County to the late Joshua Butler Witherspoon, Sr. and Sally Sigmon Witherspoon. She was a graduate of Sharon High School. She was retired from Beauty Maid Mills in Statesville. She was also a member of Sharon Lutheran Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow James; one son, Robert James; three sisters, Frances Crouch, Evelyn Dunigan, Summia Pope; one brother, Joshua B. Witherspoon Jr.
She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Wallace of Statesville and Lydia Bustle of Statesville; two sisters, Dollie W Deal and Jean W Deal and husband L.A. both of Statesville; sister in law, Jan Witherspoon; three grandchildren, Lynn B Hughes, Jennie McHale and D. Ryan Setzer; four great grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted 4:00pm Thursday April 23, 2009 at Sharon Lutheran Church. Dr. Ernest B Bolick, Jr and Rev. Gene Bruce will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday 2:30-4:00pm at the church prior to the funeral.
The family of Mrs. James would like to thank the staff of the Lutheran Home of Hickory for all their love and care.
