Theron Duane Hurlbut, 87 of 2535 Rocky Springs Rd, Hiddenite, passed away unexpectedly Saturday February 21, 2009 at his home. He was born January 12, 1922 in Russell County, KS to the late Andy Urie Hurlbut and Dolly Sebastian Hurlbut. He served in the US Army during WWII. Theron was a farmer and retired as a Security Guard for Bassett Furniture.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Steve Hurlbut; one daughter, Penny Hurlbut; and one sister Lovona Nelson.

He is survived by his wife, Marilee Pennell Hurlbut of the home; two sons, Kerry Hurlbut and Karen Foster of Whittenburg, Jeff Hurlbut and wife Mildred of Union Grove; two daughters, Sandy Zamecnik and husband Ron of Kansas and Sheila Cockrell of Stony Point; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to caregivers: Mary Ann Crouch and Linda Dalton.

A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday February 24, 2009 at 3:00pm at Chapman Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Buster Treadway will officiate . Military Rites will be provided by VFW Hiddenite Post # 10,000 and VFW Taylorsville Post # 5466 . The family will receive friends Tuesday 2:00-3:00pm prior to the service.
