John Henry Hicks, age 76 of 165 Asbury Circle, Mooresville passed away Monday July 12, 2010 at Levine Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, after a long fight with diabetes, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. He was born June 19, 1934 in Michigamme, MI to the late John E. Hicks and Martha Margaret Simonen Hicks. John graduated from Manton High School in 1952 and from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1956. After serving his country as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army, he began his career with Frigidaire Appliances.

He retired in 1989 as Frigidaire’s Northeastern USA Regional Sales Manager. He was an avid golfer and hunter who enjoyed living and playing in the outdoors of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Sutherland Hicks of the home; one son, John D Hicks and wife Julia of MN; one daughter, Kisten Hunter and husband West III; one sister, Margaret Rich and husband Calvin of CA; five grandchildren, Liam Hicks, Aidan Hicks, Shania Hicks, West Hunter IIII, and Neva S. Hunter.
A private memorial service will be held on July 18, 2010, in North Carolina. An additional memorial service will be held September 5, 2010 in Michigamme to celebrate John’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name can be made to the Levine Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Dr., Huntersville, NC 28078 or Michigamme Museum, 110 West Main Street, Michigamme, MI 49861. Donations may also be made to the American Diabetes Association.
