Judith “Marie” Shoemaker Henderson, 67, of 2118 W. Memorial Hwy, Union Grove, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Friday, June 13, 2008, at 239 Curt Road, Union Grove. She was born on April 2, 1941, in Iredell County to the late Robert Lee Shoemaker and Junie Williams Shoemaker. She had worked at Iredell Livestock and loved working with animals and as a beautician. Mrs. Henderson was a member of Grassy Knob Baptist Church.

Marie’s life was spent helping others. She had a heart of love and concern for everyone. Looking after and caring for the elderly was a major portion of her life. She is survived by her husband, John Thomas Henderson of the home; one brother, Robert David Shumaker and wife Lois of Union Grove; brother in law, Harry Stevenson; sisters in law, Bobby Stevenson and Sybil Tomlinson; special nephews: Jason Shumaker, Harold Tomlinson, Don Stevenson, Greg Stevenson, Rick Stevenson; special nieces: Amanda Coleman and Debra Tomlinson Smith; special life long friend, Sandy Church.. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday June 15, 2008 at 3:00pm at Grassy Knob Baptist Church. Rev. Jim Miles will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. Pallbearers include, Harold Tomlinson Jr., Scott Coleman, Jason Shumaker, Galen Shumaker, Nolan Shumaker and Dale Williams; honorary pallbearers include, Dwight Williams and Edward Shumaker. Memorials may be given to the Grassy Knob Baptist Church, 333 Grassy Knob Rd., Union Grove, NC 28689.

To all of Marie's family and friends my deepest sympathy. She was like a sister to me--the one I never had. We met about 46 years ago in Asheville and from the first time we met I knew she was someone very special. We were able to take little "Thelma and Louise" trips together for which I will always be grateful. She will always have a special place in my heart. I love her and miss her terribly.
