Robert Jackson “Jack” Head, age 88, of 937 Cheatham Ford Rd., Hiddenite, passed away Sunday January 18, 2009 at Brians Center of Statesville. Jack was born December 26, 1920 in AlexanderCounty to the late Gilson Burke Head and Louise Hortense Lackey Head. He served in the United States Army during WWII where he received a purple heart. He was a retired textile worker and Broyhill Furniture’s security guard. He was also a member of FaithTempleChurch.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Arnell Warren Walker Head; his brother, Allen Lackey Head and his sister, Mary H. Cervero. He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Head Canter of Griffin, GA; step son, Fred Walker, Jr. of Hiddenite; step daughters, Frances W. Levan, Nancy W. Childers and Shirley Kay W. LeVan all of Hiddenite, Linda W. Hall of Oregon; his sister Elizabeth H. Taylor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Grandchildren: Christopher Canter of Griffin, GA, Tiffany Canter of Griffin, GA, and Shane Canter of Hiddenite; eleven step grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be conducted 3:00pm Wednesday January 21, 2009 at the HiddeniteCemetery. Rev. Luke Green will be officiating. Military Rites will be provided by VFW Hiddenite Post # 10,000 and VFW Taylorsville Post # 5466.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening January 20, 2009 from 6:00pm- 8:00pm at Chapman Funeral Home and other times at the home of Kay LeVan, 1033 Cheatham Ford Rd., Hiddenite.
