Luke Leon Harrington, 67, of Rockwell, NC, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. He was born on August 2, 1940, in Alexander County, to the late Thomas Houston Harrington and Mary Porter Burke Harrington. Luke was a special child of God. Mentally handicapped from birth, he touched the lives of all whom he met. When he was a child, in Taylorsville, NC, he was well known at his father’s grocery store where he spent many hours and customers knew him well. He had a special love for his family and the caregivers at RHA Group Homes, all of whom will miss him terribly.

He is survived by his two brothers, Thomas P. Harrington and wife Joann of Conover and James D. “JD” Harrington and wife Lula Belle of Taylorsville; two sisters, Linda Cohen of Augusta, GA and Louise H. Isenhour and husband Robert of Richfield, NC; a number of nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be conducted at Reformation Lutheran Church in Taylorsville Wednesday June 11, 2008 at 5:00pm. Rev. Glenn Reichley and Rev. Beth Lilley will officiate. Burial will be in the New Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Memorials may be given to the Special Olympics of Rowan County, 828 Jake Alexander Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28147 – Attention Linda Broadway.

I am so sorry for your loss. Luke was such a sweet man. He will truly be missed. I worked with Luke at RHA several years ago. In the 5 years I was around Luke, I can truly say he touched my heart. He will always be remembered by all that knew him.
