Edmond Perry Gentle, Jr. 69, of 212 Trailway Dr., Statesville, passed away Tuesday March 10, 2009 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born April 1, 1939 in Wilkes County, to the late Edmond Perry Gentle, Sr. and Ethel Faye Joines Gentle. He served our country in the United States Air Force. He was a retired Cabinet Maker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Burrell; one sister, Ruth Harless; and a granddaughter Molly Rose Gentle.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Hayes Gentle of the home; two sons, Michael Ray Gentle of Statesville and Joseph Erwin Gentle of Troutman; one brother, John Thomas Gentle of North Wilkesboro; seven sisters, Betty Gentle Mash of North Wilkesboro, June Gentle Fletcher of Moravian Falls, Lois Gentle Hayes of Hiddenite, Peggy Gentle Oliver of Wilkesboro, Becky Gentle Anderson of Moravian Falls, Susan Gentle Petty of Creedmore, and Linda Gentle Parlier of Granite Falls; Grandchildren: Byron Lee Burrell, Samuel Michael Gentle, Kaitlyn Marie Gentle, Kelsie Renae Gentle, and Steven Frederick Gentle.

A Grave site service will be conducted at 2:00pm Thursday March 12, 2009 at Iredell Memorial Gardens. Rev. Bobby Eades will be officiating. Military rites will be provided by Iredell County Veterans Council. Entombment will follow. The family will receive friends Wednesday March 11, 2009 from 7:00-9:00pm at Chapman Funeral Home and other times will assemble at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The American Cancer Society, 6000 Fairview Rd, Charlotte, NC 28210.

Pallbearers include: Dale Fletcher, Danny Mash, Tony Joines, Hob Pennell, Charles Duncan, and Chris Petty.
