Peggy Alice Hamby Gaines, age 69 of 187 Riverfield Dr. Statesville passed away Thursday December 31, 2009 at Iredell Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born October 7, 1940 in Wilkes County to the late Agnes Hamby Gilbert. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dwight Junior Moore; second husband, Jay Odus Gaines; and a brother, Jeffery Gilbert.

She is survived by three sons, Joe Meredith and wife Melissa, Johnnie Moore and wife Peggy, Jamie Moore; two daughters, Sandy Moose and husband James all of Statesville, Lisa Sainz and husband Pat of Deming, New Mexico; two sisters, Debra Keller and husband Wayne, Teresa Thomas and husband John; three brothers, Larry Hamby, Jerry Hamby, Mike Gilbert and wife Paula; ten grandchildren; and three great grandchildren all of Statesville.

A memorial service will be conducted 11:30am Tuesday January 5, 2009 at Chapman Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Buster Treadway will officiate. The family will receive friends 11:00-11:30am prior to the service.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Peggy Moore for her excellent care of Mrs. Gaines.
