Gary Paul Conaway, Sr. age 64 of 7579 Paul Payne Store Rd., Taylorsville passed away Friday May 7, 2010 at his home. He was born October 26, 1945 in Fayette County, Ohio to Mary Underwood Conaway of Stony Point and the late George W. Conaway, Sr. Mr. Conaway served in the National Guard. He was a furniture worker and wood craftsman. He was active in Alcoholics Anonymous and 18 years of sobriety.

He is survived by his two sons, Gary Paul Conaway, Jr. and wife Jennifer of SC, Mark Jason Conaway of Hiddenite; one daughter, Paula Michelle Pate and husband Jamie of SC; four brothers, Danny Conaway of Hickory, George W. Conaway, Jr. of Statesville, Timothy Conaway and wife Tammy of Hickory, and Randy Conaway of Taylorsville; one sister, Becky Bost of Troutman; four grandchildren, Monica Conaway, Justin Carroll, Kami Conaway, and Storm Conaway; two great grandchildren, McKenley Carroll and Nohea Conaway.
A private service will be held for family and friends 2:00pm Saturday May 29, 2010 at the home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Alexander County Hospice, 51 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
