Gilbert John Campbell, age 77, of 204 Lodge Hall Court, Stony Point, passed away, Sunday July 26, 2009 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 10, 1932 in Alexander County, to the late Aldridge Campbell and Ella Elizabeth Jordan Campbell. He served in the United States Marines during the Korean conflict. He was retired from the Department of Transportation. He was also a member of Berea Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother; four sisters; and one grandson, Sammy Craig Campbell, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Byrd Campbell of the home; two sons, David Eugene Campbell of Pollocksville and Sammy Craig Campbell, Sr. of Stony Point; one daughter, Debra Miller of Mooresville; one sister, Angie Gilreath of Hiddenite; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Friday July 31, 2009 at Berea Baptist Church. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. Rev. Charles Cook will officiate. Burial will be follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be provided by The National Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00pm at Chapman Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be given to The Campbell Fund, 204 Lodge Hall Court, Stony Point, NC 28678.
