Burrell Vinson Blanton, age 87, of 1040 Lewis Ferry Rd., Statesville, passed away, Saturday June 5, 2010 at Gordon Hospice House, after an extended illness. He was born on August 6, 1922 in Cherokee County, to the late Saul Newton Blanton and Mamie Irene Blanton. Mr. Blanton served in the US Army under General Patton during WWII. He was a retired carpenter. He was also a member of Harvest Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Camps; three brothers, Ray Blanton, Dave Blanton, and Frank Blanton.
He is survived by his wife, Enis Mills Blanton of the home; one son, Earl Blanton and Debbie of Claremont; three daughters, Mary Jo Ferguson and husband Bob of Mooresville, Janis Harr and husband Bill of Statesville, Kay Harris of Hiddenite; one brother, Paul Blanton and wife Carol of Gastonia; three sisters, Earlene Earls of Shelby, Beverly Johnson and husband Melvin of Shelby, Doris Ledbetter of Belmont, and Ruby Blanton of Shelby; two care giving grandchildren, Todd Bowes and Scott Mayhew; twelve additional grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:30pm Tuesday June 8, 2010 at Harvest Baptist Church. Rev. Donnie Gant will officiate. Burial will be follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be provided by the Iredell County Veterans Council. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30pm Monday evening at Chapman Funeral Home.
