Ned Watts Barnes, Sr., age 74, of Stony Point, passed away, Friday August 28, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born on March 3, 1935 in Alexander County, to the late Chalmer Barnes and Cora Keever Barnes. He retired from furniture work and was of the Baptist Faith. Ned liked the simple pleasures of life, like drinking coffee with his special friends at Four Brothers in Hiddenite. He had many friends, knew almost everyone and never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mills Barnes; eight brothers, Donnie Barnes, Ronald Barnes, Homer Barnes, Harold Barnes, Lloyd Barnes, Jack Barnes, Richard Barnes and Thomas Barnes.
He is survived by one son, Ned Watts Barnes, Jr. and wife Trish; two daughters, Kathy Riddle and husband Steve, Martha Olmes and husband Steve; two brothers, Bobby Barnes and Bill Barnes; one sister, Betty Grant; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Monday August 31, 2009 at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. Rev. Steve Parks will officiate. Burial will be follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:30-8:30pm at Chapman Funeral Home and other times at their respective homes.
Memorials may be given to Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, 116 Patterson Road, Hiddenite, NC 28636.

| I am sorry I can't be there for you (Kathy), and the rest of the family. We all Love Uncle Ned, he was a special man. He was there with Kay when Jerry passed, that really told you what kind of man Uncle Ned was, we know he's with Jesus now. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

If either one of you need anything at all please call me or Betty (336-984-9861 or 336-667-2103). We will be there. I was so glad and happy to meet you all. Our family is small but we need to come together as family, and we all need each other very much. Love everyone of you so much and please try to remember the good days you had with your dad and he will always be there with you looking over you and smiling in his sort of way.
